Our underlying principle is the old adage: “Teach them how to fish.” Rather than just giving them a fish today, our goal is to give them the training and skills to sustain a better quality life for themselves and their family.Worship
One of the basic ways of securing the families’ future is by educating their children. Education not only equips the young with necessary skills to compete in today’s job market, but provides a needed hope for the future.
To date we have constructed a seven classroom block for God’s Will Primary School in Namayumba village. The old school, with over 100 children aged between 3 and 15, was formerly housed in a two room wooden structure that was destroyed by termite ants. The students were forced to use bricks as seats and their laps as writing desks. Many of them lacked school supplies as well. These students demonstrated incredible faith while learning in such a dilapidated structure, hoping that one day life would be better. Today they are in a much better place, thanks to the support of caring individuals who learned of their plight. While there is still work to do on the classrooms, the school’s impact on the children and the village is easy to observe.
In February 2012, we delivered desks for the children providing them a place to sit and write while learning. The school is still in need of learning charts, doors and windows, and funding for the teachers’ wages to improve the quality of education.
We have plans to build a vocational training school to better equip the youth with the necessary skills to compete favorably in the current job market. The vocational school would offer courses such as carpentry, business accounting, secretarial studies, tailoring, mechanical skills, agriculture, art and crafts, and cosmetology, to mention but a few. With this type of vocational training, school dropouts will have the opportunity to continue their education and obtain a career skill. Many youth currently drop out of school because of a lack of school fees.
HOW CAN I HELP? We are in need of prayers and support for the facility, equipment, and staff resources needed to make the vocational school a reality. In the near future, we plan to publish a list of equipment and costs, as recommended by our experts, which would be the minimum requirement for a successful vocational school. We expect to start small and expand as the need arises and funds allow. If this is an area of interest to you, you ask you to prayerfully consider financial support.
